    September 15, 2011 No comments

There will be a free Youth Violence Prevention Summit from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Guilford Township Community Center in Plainfield.

The event will be an interactive and informative day to explore ideas and strategies for preventing youth violence. This year’s focus will be on bullying prevention and will feature nationally known speaker and author SuEllen Fried from Bully Safe USA.

Fried will cover the five types of bullying — physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, and cyber-bullying — along with strategies for changing the culture of bullying.

The opening speaker for the day will be Det. Sgt. Jennifer Pyatt from the Brownsburg Police Department. Pyatt will be speaking about the specific risks associated with cyber-bullying, Internet safety, sexting, and what the adult’s role is in preventing related youth violence.

There will be a free hot breakfast provided to attendees. Law enforcement may also receive free continuing education credit hours.

The event is free but those who would like to attend must register by calling Jennifer Hill at 745-9372 or by e-mailing her at jhill@co.hendricks.in.us.
