Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in western Indiana. The crash involved a pickup truck and a semi. No injuries were reported, but during the investigation a State Police Trooper allegedly noticed visible signs of impairment on the driver and placed him into custody for driving while impaired

26 year old Derek Tarrh of Terre Haute, IN was arrested at the scene and taken to the Vigo County Jail. Tarrh was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Refusal), A misdemeanor and Driving Wrong Way in a One Way.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Preliminary investigation revealed the Toyota pickup driven by Tarrh was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 15mm. The eastbound tractor-trailer was in the driving lane and veered into the passing lane after noticing the oncoming pickup. Tarrh’s truck then struck the right rear tandem wheel assembly of the trailer. It is unknown where Tarrh began driving the wrong way or for how long.

The Indiana State Police would remind motorists to dial 911 and report wrong way and/or impaired drivers.
