Continuing a tradition that has become a rite of spring in Hendricks County, reservations are now being accepted for the 7th Annual Breakfast of Champions to be held at 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 8.

Who better to speak at this annual event than a newly crowned champion, Lin Dunn, head coach of the 2012 WNBA Champion Indiana Fever.

“We are so excited to have Lin Dunn this year. She is a champion along with her team and a good choice to provide an inspirational message to all who attend this year’s event,” said Susie Friend, executive director of the United Way of Hendricks County.  “We have invited the Hendricks County All Star Girls Basketball players whom we are very proud as well. Our goal each year with the Breakfast of Champions is to inspire participants to do more for your community and your neighborhood in which you live.”

Limited tickets do remain for the event to be held at Five Star Catering at Primo West, 2353 E. Perry Road in Plainfield. The Breakfast of Champions brings companies and individuals together who support United Way programs and services in Hendricks County.  During the breakfast, the United Way will celebrate accomplishments during the past year and recognize companies, United Way agencies and volunteers.

Past Breakfast of Champions presenters include Major General R. Martin Umbarger, Butler University Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Stevens, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Vice President of Communications Doug Boles.

To reserve a spot, call the Hendricks County United Way Office at (317) 745-0310 or send an e-mail to Susie.Friend@uwci.org. Cost is $25 a person or $500 for a reserved table of eight.

Proceeds from the event benefit the United Way programs and services in Hendricks County and Zup’s Imagination Fund through the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

Zup’s Imagination Fund benefits children’s United Way programs in the county such as the Early Readers Club, which is an early literacy program for children from birth to age 6.   Any Hendricks County child can register for this program to receive 12 books a year. The 6th Annual Zup’s Imagination Award also will be presented during the Breakfast.
