The American Red Cross along with the National Weather Service, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Education and Indiana Department of Transportation is participating in Winter Weather Preparedness Week November 14-20, 2010.

Be Red Cross Ready for winter weather emergencies by following these three steps:

    Get a Kit

Have essential items collected to sustain you and your family for 72 hours after an emergency. Make seasonal changes to the Kit in your home swap out summer for winter clothes, add winter coats and more blankets and put a Vehicle Disaster Supplies Kit in your vehicle that includes Blankets, rain gear and extra mittens, hats, etc.

    Make a Plan

Determine how you will contact family members during a winter storm and how to deal with early dismissal or closing of schools and workplaces.

    Be Informed

Learn how local authorities will notify you of winter weather emergencies and how you will get important information, whether through local radio, TV or NOAA all-hazards weather radio.
