Police say an 11-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head while with some other boys at a neighbor’s home in western Indiana.

State police say the boy was taken after Monday’s shooting by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was listed in critical condition.

The boy was at a neighbor’s house in a rural area near the Vermillion County city of Clinton with boy’s ages 10 and 15 when the shooting happened. Police say investigators are looking into the possibility that the boy was wounded while handling a loaded handgun he found in the master bedroom.

The wounded boy’s name wasn’t immediately released.
