• Wayne to remain a Colt with 3-year deal

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed wide receiver Reggie Wayne.

The Colts and Wayne have agreed to a three-year deal, according to a representative of the receiver. Terms of the contract are not known at this time.

Wayne has played all 11 of his NFL seasons in Indianapolis. He had 960 receiving yards in 2011, breaking a string of seven straight 1,000-yard seasons. He enjoyed his best season in 2007, catching a career-high 104 passes for 1,510 yards, also a career best. He caught 10 touchdown passes that year and in 2009, second best to 12 touchdown grabs in 2004.

He caught a 53-yard touchdown pass in Indianapolis’ Super Bowl (41) XLI victory in 2007.

According to the Associated Press, Wayne is expected to sign Wednesday morning.

It’s a rare move for the Colts, who last week cut Peyton Manning, linebacker Gary Brackett and safety Melvin Bullitt – all captains – along with tight end Dallas Clark and running back Joseph Addai.

They also lost free agent receiver Pierre Garcon who signed with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday.

By keeping Wayne, it will give Indy’s new quarterback, presumably Andrew Luck, a veteran to help get accustomed to the NFL.
