Sheltering Wings will host its seventh annual “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” 5K Walk/8K Run event on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Hummel Park in Plainfield, Indiana.
The event is the kick-off for the month of October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The focus of the morning is to educate the community about the realities of domestic abuse and the options available to women and children. The day will begin with registration at 8:00am, the program at 9:00am, and the walk and run itself at 9:30am. Information about the shelter and domestic violence will be available, as well as materials about our Teen Dating Violence Program and Coaching Boys Into Men Program. Members of the shelter’s Youth Council will be a part of the program. The Honor Guard, made up of area police officers, will be present.
This year’s event will also include the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” portion, which involves men walking in women’s high-heeled shoes, showing their support for women who have dealt with domestic violence.
The registration fee for this event is $20 and includes a commemorative t-shirt. To register or for more information please call 317.386.5062 or log onto www.shelteringwings.org/events/walk-run
