• Vermillion County jail escapee captured in Champaign, IL

    UPDATE: Cody J. Maple, the escaped inmate from the Vermillion County Jail has been captured in Champaign, Illinois.

    An inmate from the Vermillion County Jail was on the run Tuesday morning after escaping Monday night.

    Cody Maple was discovered missing around 11 p.m. Monday. But investigators say the 25-year-old may have taken off hours earlier, around 1:30 p.m. Monday. Investigators believe he escaped through a fence.

    He was last seen running west from the jail through a field. Other inmates saw him leave, but did not notify jail staff.

    Maple was in jail on drug charges, and police call him a serious violent felon. He is 6-foot-2, weighs 175 pounds, has blonde hair and blue eyes and has multiple tattoos.

    Police say Maple should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Indiana State Police.
