• USO of Indiana Unveils My USO Indiana Campaign

    April 27, 2012 No comments

In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt formed the United Service Organizations (USO) to provide morale-boosting recreation services to military personnel. Shortly thereafter, USO of Indianapolis was born. The mission of USO of Indianapolis was expanded later to include the entire state of Indiana and was renamed USO of Indiana.

Over the years, the USO of Indiana has evolved by developing new programs and services to meet the ever-changing needs of troops and their families. To support this mission, USO of Indiana recently launched My USO Indiana, a series of signature entertainment-themed events and support programs designed to raise public awareness and boost donations to help USO of Indiana’s mission.

“USO of Indiana contracted Indianapolis-based MCP Productions to create and produce a variety of programs based on the ideals that the USO was founded on – patriotism and good, clean, fun entertainment,” says Ron Sukenick, MCP Productions co-founder and executive producer. “It was USO of Indiana’s dedication to making a difference in the lives of military service members being deployed and their families that inspired us to take this project on.

Every day military men and women put their lives on the line – making incredible sacrifices, adds Sukenick, a retired U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. But entertainment is a good way to boost the morale of service members and their families. Additionally, entertainment provides an outlet to educate Hoosiers about USO of Indiana and its mission.

“Resurrecting the idea behind the Bob Hope USO tours, My USO Indiana’s main event will be the USO Indiana Roadshow in August and September. This multiple-city, musical variety tour will feature live performances and a multimedia presentation paying tribute to USO of Indiana and USO entertainment over the years from World War II to Afghanistan and Iraq,” says MCP Productions co-founder and executive director Mark Craycraft, a former director of entertainment with Dick Clark Productions, Inc.

Several events and programs will be produced in support of the USO Indiana Roadshow, including:

    • Who’s Laughing Now! – A live taping of this Comcast/XFINITY On Demand stand-up comedy series, featuring ten professional comedians, food and live music at the Indiana War Memorial on May 16. Also, a DVD of the show will be sold in August.
    • USO of Indiana’s Salute to Women in the Military– Active women in the armed forces will be honored during a special halftime presentation at the WNBA Indiana Fever vs. New York Liberty game on June 2. Women in the military will receive two free tickets to the game provided by a sponsor. A special meet and greet prior to the game will allow sponsors and their partner soldiers to meet.
    • Your Big Break – A statewide talent search, in June, to find undiscovered performers who will have an opportunity to share their talents during the USO Indiana Roadshow tour.
    • A Legacy of Hope: An Evening with the USO Indiana – A fundraising event on July 19, featuring dinner, entertainment and special guests.

Funds raised from these events will support USO of Indiana and its mission.

My USO Indiana offers multiple opportunities for Hoosiers to get involved with these events and programs, including purchasing tickets for the events; participating in the talent show; making private donations; volunteering at events; becoming a program sponsor; or working with My USO Indiana as a strategic partner providing financial and creative support.

“As FDR said, ‘USO deserves the support of every individual citizen,’” says Sukenick. “We need to continue to lift the spirits of our military personnel and their families, and be there for them until everyone comes home. The troops need the USO and the USO of Indiana needs you.”
