• United Way Offers Six Workshops in Spring Series

    The spring calendar for United Way of Central Indiana’s (UWCI) Nonprofit Training Center includes sessions on grant writing for beginners, volunteer management, the role of the board president and nonprofit financials, announced United Way.

    United Way’s training helps nonprofits in Central Indiana increase their capacity to govern and manage themselves by providing practical, affordable training and technical assistance through workshops and other experiences. All offerings beginning in March are at United Way’s 3901 N. Meridian Street headquarters in Indianapolis.

    Grant Writing for Beginners, a two-part workshop Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday March 19, 9 a.m. to noon each day. Taught by Kim Donahue, United Way’s Nonprofit Training Center director, the workshop will help participants learn how to use data to build a case, research funding sources and other elements of managing and evaluating a grant. The cost is $60 for United Way agencies and $70 for others.

    Volunteer Management, Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26, 9 a.m. to noon. Taught by Alan Witchey, Volunteer Center director and Rachel Candee, skills-based volunteer manager, the two part-workshop is for both those new to volunteer services and for those with experienced who want to get back to the basics. The cost is $60 for United Way agencies and $70 for others.

    The Role of the Board President, Tuesday, April 15, 9-11:30 a.m. Taught by Kim Donahue, director of United Way’s Nonprofit Training Center, the workshop will provide tools and techniques for understanding group dynamics, handling conflict and conducting effecting meetings. The cost is $20 for United Way agencies and $25 for others.

    Everything You Wanted to Know About Nonprofit Financials, But Were Afraid to Ask, Wednesday, May 7, 9-11:30 a.m. Taught by Kathy Pitts, CPA Milestone Advisors, the workshop will cover budgets, balance sheets, cash flow statements and more in lay terms. Cost is $20 for United Way agencies and $25 for others.

    Advanced Volunteer Management, a two-part workshop on Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday May 21, 9 a.m. to noon. Taught by Alan Witchey, United Way’s Volunteer Center director and Becky Fox, corporate volunteerism manager, the workshop is for the experienced volunteer manager and will offer strategies for taking your program to the next level. Cost is $60 for United Way agencies and $70 for others.

Taught by Kim Donahue, United Way’s Nonprofit Training Center director, the training will help participants learn how to use data to build a case, research funding sources and other elements of managing and evaluating a grant.
