• United Christmas Service needs to raise $485,000 by December 17

    December 02, 2013 No comments

    If your holiday traditions include giving to help families in need, United Christmas Service offers two easy ways you can still get involved this season. Last year, United Christmas Service programs reached more than 25,500 people.

    Financial contributions are still needed so that families referred by local caseworkers can exchange a voucher for food, clothing or small toys. To make a monetary gift, visit uwci.org/ucs. Or, mail your contribution to United Christmas Service, P.O. Box 663753 Indianapolis, IN 46266-3753.

    Another way to help is to purchase a WTHR Sunrise Cookbook for $9.99 at participating local Kroger stores with proceeds benefitting United Christmas Service. Cookbooks feature favorite recipes of WTHR anchors, seasonal recipes and tips from culinary pros. Kroger is participating  for the first time this season.

    To have your cookbook autographed by WTHR Sunrise team members attend one of the signing events scheduled for:

    Thursday, December 5 – Avon Kroger store, 108 North State Rd 267, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.;

    Friday, December 6 – Fishers Kroger store, 9799 E. 116th St., 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. ;

    Thursday, December 12 – Southport Kroger store, 1330 West Southport Rd., 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.;

    Friday, December 13 – Nora Kroger store, 1365 E. 86th St., 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

    A program of United Way of Central Indiana, United Christmas Service still needs to raise about $485,000 by December 17 so that all 8,400 families referred by caseworkers get some kind of holiday assistance this year.

    Christmas Service set a goal to raise $800,000 so families not matched with a donor group can receive a restricted voucher for food, clothing and toys.

    United Christmas Service verifies that those seeking help have not already been served by another organization. United Christmas Service reaches people in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion and Morgan counties.
