• Troopers Patrol Car Struck While Assisting Motorists

    This morning at approximately 8:35 a.m., troopers were notified of a personal injury crash on 865 WB at the 4.8 mm (865/465 split) involving an Indiana State Police patrol car.

    Preliminary investigation has revealed that Senior Trooper Charles Taylor was seated in his patrol car while assisting a motorist on 865 WB on the right side emergency shoulder. A 2012 White International semi-tractor trailer traveling WB on 865 lost control and struck the rear of the trooper’s car. Trooper Taylor’s vehicle was shoved into the rear of the motorist’s car he was assisting. The Indiana Department of Transportation had been applying abrasives in this area due to ice accumulation on the ramps.

    The disabled motorist, Dawn Davis, 33, was transported to St Vincent Hospital for complaint of pain to her head and neck.

    Trooper Taylor was transported to St Vincent Hospital to be treated for back and neck pain. He was conscious and alert. Trooper Taylor is a thirteen year veteran of the Indiana State Police and is assigned to the Indianapolis Post.

    The semi tractor operator, Samson Stratton, 30, was not injured.

    Stratton was issued traffic citations for speed too fast for road and weather conditions and failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle.

    The investigation is continuing.
