Starting pitcher Chris Tillman struck out nine Indianapolis Indians’ batters and held the Tribe to just one run in 6.2 innings of work, while all nine Norfolk Tides starters recorded at least one base hit en route to a 9-1 victory on Monday night at Victory Field.

Tillman , who struck out at least one batter in six of his seven innings of work, improved his season record to 9-7 on the year with the victory. Relievers Alberto Castillo and Frank Mata combined to hold the Tribe scoreless over the final 2.1 innings of play to close out the contest and preserve the victory for Tillman.
Norfolk jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead courtesy of a two-run home run off the bat of 3B Scott Moore in the top of the second inning. After scoring a single run in the top half of the third inning, the Tides tacked on four more scores in the fourth frame to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Indianapolis scratched across its lone run of the contest in the home half of the fourth inning when LF Brandon Moss and RF John Bowker strung together back-to-back two out singles to put runners at first and third before DH Mitch Jones lined a base knock to left field to plate the Tribe’s only run of evening.
The Tides finished out their scoring with a run in the sixith and one more in the ninth.

Indians’ starter Jeremy Powell was strapped with his eighth loss of the season after he allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 3.1 innings of work, while LHP Daniel Moskos and RHP Jean Machi each turned in a scoreless inning of relief out of the Tribe bullpen.

The loss drops the Indians’ record to 58-59 on the season, nine and a half games behind division leader Columbus and seven and a half games behind Louisville in the wild-card race.

The Indians continue their four-game series against the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. RHP Joe Martinez is expected to get the start for the Tribe, while LHP Chris George is the probable starter for the Tides.
