• Tribe edges Knights 2-1

    July 29, 2011 No comments

Indianapolis starting pitcher Garrett Olson gave up just one earned run on only two hits in 5.1 innings, while the bullpen combination of Jared Hughes and Tim Wood blanked the Charlotte offense the rest of the way, to top the Knights 2-1 on Thursday night at Knights Stadium.

Pitchers from both sides were solid throughout the contest, with Olson earning the victory to improve to 4-0, while Charlotte LHP Doug Davis was pinned with the loss despite allowing just two runs on six hits in six innings.

Both the Indians and Knights bullpens would not budge in support of their respective starters, as Hughes and Wood altogether gave up three hits in 3.2 innings of relief with Wood notching his team leading 19th save of the season. Knights relievers Brian Omogrosso and Josh Kinney combined to fire three perfect innings for Charlotte.

Charlotte took the early lead in the second courtesy of a opposite field home run from CF Jordan Danks to left center to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.

Indianapolis however, countered in the top of the third with a pair of scores to take the lead for good. SS Pedro Ciriaco began the rally with a single, advanced to third on 2B Josh Harrison’s double, and then came across on a wild pitch to tie the game. LF John Bowker followed with an infield single to bring home Harrison and give the Indians a 2-1 lead.

The Knights got their biggest chance to tie or take the lead in the sixth when they got their first two batters on base to put runners on the corners with no outs. Olson and Hughes however, combined to silence the threat by striking out the side from there.

Indianapolis and Charlotte conclude their four-game series in their final meeting on the year this evening at 7:15 p.m. RHP Dylan Axelrod is scheduled to get the ball for the Knights, while RHP Ross Ohlendorf on a Major League Rehab Assignment from the Pirates is expected to start for the Tribe.
