inning after first baseman Jeremy Reed blasted Charlotte out to an early advantage with
a two-run dinger in the second as the Charlotte Knights defeated Indianapolis Indians 3-
2 yesterday at Victory Field.Before Rodriguez’s game-winning shot in the sixth, Charlotte jumped out to an early
2-0 lead in the top half of the second inning as Reed hit a rope out to deep right field
for his first home run of the 2010 campaign to give the Knights an early two-run lead.
The Tribe tied the contest at 2-2 with single runs in both the second and fifth innings of
play. 1B Doug Bernier doubled home the Indians’ first run when he plated C Luke Carlin
with two outs in the second, before a double play grounder plated Indianapolis’ second
run of the game in the fifth.With the score tied at two in the top half of the sixth inning, Rodriguez stepped to the
dish with the bases empty and one out in the inning when he blasted one out to right
field for the decisive 3-2 Knights’ lead.The loss drops Indianapolis’ record to 52-51 on the season, while Charlotte’s victory
improves them to an identical 52-51 mark. The win for the Knights also ups their head-
to-head record against the Indians to 2-5 on the season.Charlotte starter Lucas Harrell evened his season record at 9-9 after the right-hander
limited the Tribe to two runs on six hits in six strong innings of work, while Ryan Braun
collected his 15th save of the year with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Indians’ RHP
Daniel McCutchen was strapped with the tough luck loss after he allowed just three
runs on six hits in eight innings of work.Tribe LF Kevin Melillo’s first inning single extended his season-best hitting streak to 10
consecutive games.Indianapolis concludes its four-game series with Charlotte today at 7:00 p.m. LHP Brian
Burres is the probable starter for the Indians, while RHP Jeff Marquez is expected to get
