• Tribe beat Paw Sox 7-5

Two PawSox throwing errors led to four Tribe runs, while left fielder John Bowker belted a solo home run and drove in two to help lead the Indianapolis Indians over the Pawtucket Red Sox 7-5 yesterday afternoon at Victory Field.

The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two scores in the top of the second sparked by 2B Josh Rodriguez and RF Miles Durham, who led off the inning with a walk and single to center. The Tribe then took advantage of the Red Sox first throwing miscue of the afternoon, when both Rodriguez and Durham trotted home on PawSox pitcher Felix Doubront’s throwing error.

Bowker then blasted the Tribe out to a 3-0 lead when he led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot over the right field fence.

Another Red Sox throwing error then helped the Indians extend their advantage even further, when in the top of the fourth C Kris Watts and CF Gorkys Hernandez sped home when PawSox 3B Hector Luna threw away a ground ball off the bat of SS Brian Friday.  Following the second costly miscue, Friday swiped second to set up Bowker, who brought him home with a base hit to right to push the Indians lead to 6-0.

Pawtucket would cut into the Tribe lead with a single score in the top of the sixth and two more tallies in the top of the seventh to cut the Tribe lead to 6-3.

Indianapolis would tack on an insurance run in their half of the seventh on three straight base knocks culminated by a RBI double off the bat of Rodriguez.

The Red Sox were not finished, however, as they kept things interesting by tacking on two more tallies in the top of the eighth. Che-Hsuan Lin started the scoring in the eighth when he rolled an infield single to plate Nate Spears, before a Tribe wild pitch plated Jose Iglesias to draw the Sox within two at 7-5.

Tribe starter Sean Gallagher did not figure in the final decision despite allowing just one hit over 3.2 innings of scoreless work.  Instead, RHP Steven Jackson earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season after tossing 2.1 innings of solid relief.

Pawtucket starter Felix Doubront suffered the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season after surrendering six runs on seven hits over six innings.

Indianapolis and Pawtucket now wrap up their four-game series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Justin Wilson is expected to start the series finale for the Indians, while RHP Brandon Duckworth is scheduled to take the mound for the Red Sox.
