Correction: The below events took place in Shelby County and the suspects were incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail. Not the Marion County Processing Center as previously reported. My apologies for the misinformation.
Two Illinois men are in the Shelby County Jail and are facing several felony charges after a traffic stop by an Indianapolis trooper.
Late yesterday evening, December 19th, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Trooper David Ploog stopped a Jeep SUV on I-74 EB at the 109 mm for a traffic violation. During the course of the stop Trooper Ploog detected several indicators that the driver and passenger were not being truthful and possible criminal actions were afoot.
Further investigation revealed that the driver Igor Kravtsov, 27, and his passenger Kirill Buryak, 26, both of Illinois were in possession of possible fraudulent gift cards.
A Special Agent with the United States Secret Service was called to assist with the investigation and determined that eleven gift cards were fraudulent.
Kravtsov and Buryak were secured and transported to the Shelby County Jail without incident. Each is facing eleven C- felony counts of Defrauding a Financial Institution. Kravtsov was also issued a traffic citation for unsafe lane movement.
Troopers daily remove the criminal element from the roadways of Indiana with what begins as the “routine traffic stop.” Troopers often uncover underlying criminal acts during traffic stops by applying their experience and training to observe for indicators of wrong doing.
Investigating Officer: Trooper David Ploog, Indiana State Police
