During Thursday’s Brownsburg Town Council meeting, the Town approved an agreement with INDOT to take over control of SR 267 from County Road 200 N to County Road 700 N. INDOT has agreed to subsidize the Town $250,000 for maintenance over a 10 year period for taking over the 4.34 mile section.

Brownsburg Town Manager Grant Kleinhenz announced the agreement via his Twitter account this morning. Kleinhenz stated that the Town’s first goal will be to hold meetings with residents and businesses on the stretch of SR 267, from US 136 to 56th Street, to discuss the future of the corridor. He also stated that the Town has also applied for a Highway Safety Improvement grant for the stretch in the amount of $3,185,900 for potential 3 lane construction.

With the Town assuming local control of the primary route through Brownsburg, Brownsburg Town Councilman Rob Kendall stated that the Town could now move forward in bringing more commercial development to Brownsburg and solve some of the traffic backups that residents in a recent survey touted as a priority.
