• Town of Avon set to break ground on WWII Memorial Park

    June 06, 2012 No comments

The Town of Avon is holding a groundbreaking ceremony at 7 p.m. tomorrow to begin construction on its World War II Memorial Park project.

The park is at the northwest corner of Dan Jones Road and County Road 100 South. Those attending the groundbreaking may park at Pine Tree Elementary School.

WW II veterans will be in attendance and the ceremony will include an honor guard and the playing of “Taps.”

When the memorial is complete, it will include a central plaza, seven flags, and a monument. It will be linked to the school by a sidewalk.

Town officials plan to complete the park in three phases, with everything being finished by the spring of 2013.

Funds are still needed to complete the project. Donation forms are available online at www.avonsgreatest.org.

There will also be a fundraising car show Aug. 19 at Avon Town Hall Park.

All in the community are welcome to attend the Thursday groundbreaking and show respect to the WW II veterans in attendance.
