• Town of Avon implements water restrictions

    July 13, 2012 3 comments

A water shortage warning has been declared for the Town of Avon which means that mandatory water use restrictions are in effect. Citizens Water has informed us that the conditions have been met for a warning. One or more of the reservoirs is below 50% of their annual drawdown design capacity.

The following are not allowed during the warning:
    Watering of grass
    Washing Vehicles
Cleaning sidewalks or other outdoor surfaces or buildings.
    Filling empty swimming pools.
Installing new landscaping or new lawn.
Using hydrants for non fire suppression.
Operating water fountains that are non recycling.

    Exception:
Vegetable gardens and flowers may be watered every other day by container or hand held hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle. Trees less than five years old may be watered once per week with a hand held hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle.

    Exemptions:
Nurseries: only use water to preserve inventories.
Automatic Car Washes: if a majority of water is recycled.
Manual commercial car washes: only if a handheld hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle is utilized.
Town property: if necessary to preserve assets.

There is a great deal of “Avon” that is not within the city limits….therefore the restrictions are not enforcable in areas governed by the county. If you see violations call the city or police. Neither of these agencies monitor this website for violations.
