• Tandem Tractor-Trailor Rolls Over on I-70 Near Terre Haute

    September 21, 2010 No comments

At 6:34 a.m. this morning, Indiana State Police Troopers and Terre Haute Fire Department Rescue personnel were dispatched to the 7 mile marker of Interstate 70 for an overturned tractor pulling double trailers. Emergencies agencies found the wreckage was off the roadway on the south side and the driver was not injured.

Preliminary investigation determined the tractor trailer unit was eastbound on I-70 near the 7mm and traveled down an embankment, overturning on the south side of the roadway. Investigators believe the driver was distracted within the cab causing him to lose control, ultimately overturning. The semi was owned by FedEx Corporation and was hauling general freight enroute from St. Louis, Missouri to Terre Haute, Indiana.

The driver was identified as David W. Hodge, age 33, of Cloverdale, IN. He was not injured. The tractor was a 2009 Kenworth tractor pulling tandem trailers.

The crash was investigated by Master Trooper Todd Miles. He was assisted by other ISP troopers and the Terre Haute City Fire Department.

A post crash inspection by Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer, Senior Trooper Matt Ames, found no deficiencies with the driver or tractor trailer combination.

No citations were issued. The wreckage will be cleared by Peffley and Hinshaw Wrecker Service.

All lanes of Interstate 70 remained open during the crash investigation.
