A SWAT team has been called to a rural home east of Martinsville Wednesday morning due to shots fired.

SWAT was dispatched to the scene around 8:10 a.m. to the log cabin home on Centennial Road, near Egbert Road.

Indiana State Police Capt. David Bursten says two Johnson County sheriff’s deputies, one Franklin Police Department officer and a federal agent were at the home serving a warrant when a situation developed that made the officers unable to leave. The officers were freed from the home around 10:40 a.m. Police said the officers that were pinned in the home are not injured.

The ISP Emergency Response Team is at the scene, along with other state police personnel who are assisting. However, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department is the lead investigator on the scene.

Two medical helicopters and ambulances were called to the scene in case of injuries. They are on standby in a nearby church’s parking lot.

Police served a failure to pay child support warrant on Charles Kidwell when a second person who rents a room in the home fired shots.

Witnesses told police that the second man, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, said “you’re not going to take me,”

A witness at the scene said her family members were inside the home at the time the warrant was served. She said her family members were able to escape from the home when gunfire was exchanged. The woman told WXIN in Indianapolis that she knew at least two shots were fired.

Martinsville schools are placed on a level-1 lockdown, meaning they are not allowed outside the building. Nearby residents are also asked to stay inside their homes.

UPDATE: The suspect has been apprehended.
