• Suspect who threatened IMPD officers with a gun is shot and killed

    November 07, 2011 No comments

Early Saturday morning, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers received a call of shots fired on the 800 block of W. 29th St. in Indianapolis. They never could have imagined they would need to shoot an offender for their own safety when they did.

The caller warned of a man that was lying on the ground by an abandoned house. The initial officer to arrive astutely noted that the man on the ground was holding a gun. From there, officers ordered the man to drop the firearm, to which he refused. The man was later identified as Travis Hardley.

Hardley, 30, reportedly then got up and pointed the weapon at officers, who at that point had no choice but to open fire on him, killing him in the process.

No officers were injured in this situation and they will speak to investigators about the events.

IMPD’s Critical Incident Response Team will be charged with further investigating the case.
