The Indiana Short Film Festival honored a Spanish film as its grand jury winner and also announced several audience choices following a successful event that attracted hundreds of film lovers to the Royal Theater in Danville.

A panel of special judges including local and national film critics and professionals selected “The Apple of My Eye” as the Indiana Short Film Festival’s Grand Jury winner. Along with the title, the honor earned filmmaker Franc Planas a $250 cash award.

The 14-minute film left several of the audience members in tears as it detailed a man and his close relationship with his grandmother.

In addition to the grand jury winner, six other films were honored by an audience vote. Those winners include:

    • Animation: “Luminaris” by Franc Planas
    • Comedy: “Star Struck” by Charles Ward
    • Documentary: “The 5  Stages” by Desireé Longworth
    • Drama: “Roadside Girls” by Denis Mauguit
    • Science Fiction/Horror: “Refugio 115” by Ivan Villamel
    • Student: “G” by Luke Broyles

Formerly the Film Festival of Hendricks County, the Indiana Short Film Festival is the only event solely dedicated to short films in the Central Indiana region with three days of festivities. This year’s event was Oct. 11-13.

A record 85 films from across the globe were submitted with a selection committee narrowing that list to the final 64 that were shown.

Showings included various genres such as animation, comedies, documentaries, drama, horror and more. Check the event website at www.INShortFilmFest.com/events.htm for a synopsis of the films shown during the film festival or for more information.
