A 15-year-old male accidentally shot himself while target shooting in Stilesville on Sunday.

As reported in today’s edition of the Hendricks County Flyer, The incident happened around 2 p.m. in the 8500 block south of County Road 300 West. Lt. Jim Yetter with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department said the youth shot himself in the groin area with a .22-caliber pistol.

Yetter said, “It’s not a serious injury and no criminal charges are being pursued. It’s been ruled accidental.”

The victim was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Yetter didn’t know the extent of his injuries but said they weren’t life threatening.

Yetter said, “He thought he had fired all the rounds. He lowered the weapon thinking it was empty, pulled the trigger, and accidentally shot himself. The lesson is you always treat a gun as if it’s loaded.”
