Indiana State Police detectives are investigating the shooting death of the wife of a Hendricks County jailer.

Dispatchers received a 911 call shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday from Jason Burton that he heard a gunshot shortly after arriving home from his work at the jail. He told dispatchers he then found his wife, 30 year old Melissa Burton, at the couple’s Danville home.

The husband told police he attempted unsuccessfully to revive his wife with CPR. The Hendricks County coroner pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

An Indiana State Police spokesperson said that the Burtons’ three children were home at the time of the incident.

Crime scene investigators from the state police got involved at the request of the Danville Police Department, Poole said.

Anyone with information that could prove helpful in the ongoing death investigation is asked to contact the state police Indianapolis Post at (317) 899-8577.
