A campaign that ties a food drive in with the Super Bowl continues to gain momentum in two suburban counties as it nears its Feb. 4 deadline.

Back in November, the State Bank of Lizton invited community members, civic organizations and businesses in Boone and Hendricks counties to join their team for the 2011-2012 Souper Bowl of Caring campaign to benefit local food pantries. The Souper Bowl of Caring national initiative is held each year in conjunction with the Super Bowl providing materials and other support to allow groups the flexibility to donate non-perishable food items or money to local causes.

As of Dec. 31, the State Bank of Lizton team had collected $5,500 in corporate donations, another $1,345 in employee donations and 1,500 non-perishable food items that will be shared by 10 local food pantries and the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry.

In addition, at a recent bankwide training and employee award day, the bank collected nearly 300 more items which were given to the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition.

“Each donation is greatly appreciated,” said Rhonda Wiles, assistant vice president of marketing and community relations for the State Bank of Lizton. “Because of the effort of our employees, customers and area businesses, more hungry mouths will be filled, and that is a win-win for everyone.”

It isn’t too late for people to contribute. State Bank of Lizton locations in Avon, Brownsburg, Lizton, Pittsboro and Plainfield in Hendricks County; Dover, Jamestown, Lebanon and Zionsville in Boone County; and the Hendricks County Convention and Tourism Bureau in Danville will continue to collect donations through Feb. 4.
