State Atttorney General warns political parties on robo-calling
September 19, 2011 No commentsIndiana’s attorney general said his office is moving to crack down on political candidates who use robo-calls.
Attorney General Greg Zoeller sent a letter Friday to the state’s political parties reminding them the state bars campaigns from automatically dialing Indiana residents’ phones and playing pre-recorded messages.
State law bars campaigns from auto-dialing residents unless a campaign volunteer first obtains permission or the Hoosier opts in to receive the political calls. Zoeller can file lawsuits seeking up to $5,000 per violation.
Hoosiers who have received robo-calls can file complaints with Zoeller’s consumer protection division.
