The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is open for business today and getting ready for a very busy weekend.

Rookie Orientation starts today at 8:30 until 2:00. The Firestone Freedom 100 Testing is will take place tomorrow from 10:00 until 3:00 and is also free to attend. Saturday is the official opening day, and IMS will be open 10:00 until 6:00. Tickets are $10 and kids under 12 are free.

On Sunday, another full day of practice is scheduled.

Adding and promoting more off-track activities is a goal of IMS to attract new and young people. The idea is to not only make the Indy 500 just about a race, but make it an event. The focus this year is on concerts, reviving the Snakepit, even talk about closing down Georgetown Road to traffic and putting activities on the street for families.

Other events fans can take part in include live music by Here Comes the Mummies on Pole Day. Carb Day was moved to Friday, and Lynard Skynard will be on hand to perform for fans.

The Snake Pit Opens at 7 am on Race Day.

IMS officials say tickets are still available.
