Cascade hosted Southmont last night in a game that was tight all the way through to the finish. The game was decided by free throws and Southmont converted 18 of 20 attempts compared to the Cadets 11 of 13 as the Mounties snapped Cascade’s four game winning streak winning 77 – 75.

The game saw numerous lead changes with Southmont holding a 24-20 lead after the end of the first quarter.  But Cascade’s defense would limit the Mounties to only 13 second quarter points as the Cadets went into the locker room at the half the leading 39-37.

It was more of the same in the second half with the lead bouncing back and forth but it was the Mounties free throw shooting that would prove to be the difference.

Southmont (10-6) had three players score in double figures with Devon Burton scoring a team high 28 points, Austin Burton had 25 points and Cody Thomas chipped in with 12 points.

Cascade’s (13-5) Alex Arthur led all scorers with 30 points while the Cadets Jeffrey Hopper and J.T. Thomas scored 18 points apiece.

Next up for the Cadets is a trip to Western Boone on Friday before wrapping up the season at home next week against Edgewood.
