November 30, 2011 No commentsA snow plow driver was taken by medical helicopter to St. VIncent Hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday morning after a train collided with the plow truck.
Hendricks County officials said 65-year-old Richard Layman, of Danville, was northbound on County Road 151 North when he approached a stop sign at a railroad crossing just west of Lizton.
The conductor of a CSX train said he saw Layman slow the plow, but not stop before proceeding onto the tracks. The train traveling westbound at 45 mph hit the plow truck, causing significant damage.
Officials say Layman was conscious when taken to the hospital. He was complaining of pain to his legs and arms.
The Hendricks County plow was carrying sand at the time of the crash.
