Single-class basketball provision pulled from bill, for now
January 19, 2012 No commentsA state senator has reached a compromise in his effort to bring back single-class basketball to Indiana.
State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel) says the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) will review the class basketball system. In the meantime, Delph says he’s removing that language from his bill.
Delph’s legislation would have restored single-class basketball by banning a school corporation from participating in an interscholastic athletics association if the boys or girls basketball teams are divided into classes.
Senate Bill 236, which also addresses rewards for high-performing schools, school start date and cursive writing, is awaiting action by the Senate Committee on Education.
