• Sheltering Wings hosts “Battle of the Bands”

    October 13, 2011 No comments

Sheltering Wings will host its third annual “Battle of the Bands” event on October 29 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. The mission of the event is to actively engage and educate teens and adults in the community about Teen Dating Violence while raising awareness.

During active participation in the program adults and teens will be educated and empowered through the music written and performed by artists between the ages of 13 and 24. Each band has written an entry song about dating violence and sexual assault, with the music styles including heavy metal, rap, pop and soft rock. Judges will award prizes to the top two bands. Opportunities are still available for bands to participate.

Students will run food concessions, and “Free Hugs” t-shirts and wristbands will be available for purchase. A “Photo Corner”, where teens can get fun photos taken at no charge, will also play part in the event. Doors will open at 4:30pm that day, with the competition beginning at 5:00pm. Admission to this event is free and event sponsorships are available. Contact Amy Cline, Director of Education & Outreach, at 317-386-5061 or acline@shelteringwings.org for involvement in the event.
