Early Thursday morning, January 5th, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a one vehicle crash on I-65 SB at the 110mm (south split) that killed a 33 year old man from Canada.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Sukhinder S. Dhuga, 30, of Brampton, Canada was driving a 2005 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer SB on I-65 at the 110mm. According to the investigators, speed was a factor in the crash and the driver may have fallen asleep. The semi-tractor trailer went off the right side of the roadway, struck a guard rail and overturned. Dhuga was found under the semi and was extricated by emergency personnel. A passenger in the sleeper birth, Harbhajan S. Jhutti, 33, of Canada was ejected from the semi. Both subjects were transported to Wishard Hospital. Jhutti was pronounced dead at 3:29 a.m. as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Dhuga’s condition is unknown.

The semi-tractor trailer was loaded with empty CD cases that were spilled during the crash. I-65 SB in the area of the crash ranged from complete closure to partial lane closures until 6:00 a.m. while the wreckage was removed.

The trucking company, Dhuga Transport Inc., of Brampton, Canada is making notification to the family of the decedent. Notification confirmation has not been confirmed.

    The investigation is continuing.
