• Sampen Does it All For Bulldogs in 10-0 Win

    April 15, 2011 No comments

Isaac Sampen did it all for the Brownsburg Bulldogs yesterday as he pitched 6 innings of two hit shutout baseball and blasted two home runs as Brownsburg beat McCutcheon 10-0 in 6 innings at Rose Park.

Sampen faced one over the minimum though the first four innings before allowing runners to reach first and third in the fifth. But the right handed junior struck out Mavericks right fielder Ian Lowe to end the only McCutcheon threat of the game.

The Bulldogs six run second inning would be all that they needed against the Mavericks. Bobby Carr and David Oliger opened the inning with back to back singles. After a sacrifice fly moved Carr to third, Brownsburg catcher Tyler Halstead drove Carr in with an RBI groundout to plate the first run of the game for Brownsburg. Oliger would later score on a McCutcheon throwing error. One out later, Johnny Moore and Jeremy Jones each reached base on McCutcheon errors. Jason Catron drove in Moore and Jones with a two out, two run double and came home himself when Sampen stepped up to the plate and blasted a two run homer to left.

McCutcheon starter Shane Bryant lasted only two innings giving up 7 runs on 5 hits but thanks to three Mavericks errors, only two of those runs were earned.

The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the third inning as Bulldog left fielder Johnny Moore hit a two run homer to increase the lead to 8-0. Brownsburg tacked on another run in the fifth on a Jeremy Jones sacrifice fly.

After Sampen set the side down in order striking out two in the top of the sixth inning, he led off the bottom of the sixth and blasted a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for his second home run of the day giving Brownsburg a 10 run lead after 6 innings to end the game.

The Bulldogs evened up their record at 3-3 and 1-1 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play. Brownsburg will play a double header this Saturday at Madison.
