    October 13, 2011 No comments

The Indiana State Police at Putnamville are currently investigating several complaints of theft from rural mailboxes in south central Putnam County. The thefts occurred along US 231 South near County Road 350 South. A total of 35 residential mailboxes were targeted on or around October 3. In addition to the thefts of mail, one resident’s vehicle was forcefully entered and articles taken.

The Indiana State Police along with the US Post Office in Greencastle urge residents to retrieve their mail as soon as possible. Some of the victim’s were only emptying their mailboxes every few days.

Indiana State Police remind residents that rural mail thefts are not uncommon and all rural residents should retrieve their mail as soon as possible. Law Enforcement should be notified if you notice any suspicious person(s) or vehicles lingering in the area of rural mailboxes.
