• Road Side Altercation Leads to Attempted Shooting

    January 10, 2011 No comments

Sunday morning, January 9th, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Indiana State Police troopers responded to I-65 NB at the 116.8 mm (just south of MLK) to the report of an altercation and attempted shooting.

Charles Kidson, 26, of Indianapolis told troopers that he was following a white Ford Expedition north bound on I-65 and the vehicle was “all over the roadway.” The Expedition pulled over to the emergency berm and Kidson stopped his vehicle in front of it. Kidson exited his vehicle and heard someone yelling for help. Kidson approached the driver’s side of the Expedition and saw the driver pointing a hand gun at him through a partially rolled down window. Kidson and the suspect, Antonio Diaz, 35, of Indianapolis struggled over control of the hand gun at which time a shot was fired.

The struggled continued as Diaz exited the vehicle and dropped the weapon. Kidson ran back to his vehicle and observed Diaz throw the hand gun over a concrete barrier wall and flee south in the north bound lanes of I-65 on foot.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department apprehended Diaz a short time later at 29th and Clifton and he was transported to Wishard Hospital to be treated for minor bleeding from his hand.

Kidson was not injured and did not require medical attention.

Diaz is preliminarily being charged with operating while intoxicated and is being held at Wishard Hospital Detention.

This is an ongoing investigation and further charges could be filed when completed.
