• Registration begins for Hendricks County relay event

Last year, the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County started a first-of-its-kind event in Hendricks County. After a successful first year, Park 2 Park Relay returns as registration has begun for the event’s second running.

The Park 2 Park Relay challenges teams of six to run a relay-style race consisting of 60 miles on various terrains as the course winds through Hendricks County communities, country side and along park trails. This year’s race will be held Saturday, June 16.

“Last year’s event was such a great success in showing off what Hendricks County has to offer,” said Race Director Jeff Banning. “We have such a wonderful county with many amenities that most people are now aware of.”

Cost is $300 a team. This year’s event does have a new Ultra Marathon division, which allows individuals 18 or older to run the entire 60-mile race. Cost to enter the Ultra Marathon division is $75.

Participants don’t have to be elite runners to compete. Last year’s field included casual runners to serious competitors with various divisions for different groups. To be a part of a team, participants must be age 14 by the day of the event.

All registration must be completed in advance. There is no race day registration. To register, go online at www.park2parkrelay.org and use a credit card or fill out a printable form and mail a check.

Teams who register by mail must include a check for $300 made out to “The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County.” Mailing address is: The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County, P.O. Box 221, Danville, IN 46122. The mail-in registration deadline is May 25.

All team members receive a free tech shirt, and registration will be capped at 200 teams.

“The ultimate goal of the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County was to not only raise awareness but to create a way to benefit the Hendricks County Parks Department through creating an endowment as well as creating funds for direct park improvements,” Banning said. “We got that successfully accomplished last year, and we look forward to continuing that legacy for many years to come.”
