After winning their first regional championship in school history the Plainfield Quakers softball team will try to go one step further as they play for the class 4A state championship tomorrow evening at Ben Davis.

Plainfield will face Huntington North for the state title. The Vikings at 23-7 are also considered somewhat of a surprise to find themselves in the state championship game. The Vikings defeated a heavily favored Northridge team in the semi-states by a score of 1-0 to advance to the championship game.

The Quakers recorded their first regional championship when they knocked off Perry Meridian by the score of 6-1 to advance to the semi-states. Plainfield defeated Franklin Central 1-0 in eight innings to advance to the semi-state semifinal. The Quakers Courtney Collins struck out 12 and scattered four hits over eight innings of work in that game.

Plainfield would take on Roncalli for the right to play in the state championship game as the Quakers knocked off the Rebels 3-1 behind Collins and Maggie Stahl’s two run homer.

The class 4A state championship game will be held at Ben Davis high school with the first pitch between the Vikings and the Quakers set for 7:30 PM EDT.
