• Public Invited to Observe Water Quality Event

    April 06, 2011 No comments

Area residents interested in water quality are welcome to attend a fish shocking demonstration on Saturday, April 16 at Arbuckle Acres Park. Local Girl Scouts will be part of the group on hand to learn how the health of fish can gauge the health of a waterway.

Commonwealth Biomonitoring will conduct the demonstration in White Lick Creek, which involves sending an electronic current through the water to stun the fish. The fish are gently netted and brought to a tub along the bank for identification and discussion, then released unharmed back into the water. The different species of fish existing within a waterway can be an indicator of the water quality.

The demonstration will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Meet in the lower section of Arbuckle Acres along the creek bank at the west end of the park to view the event.
