Popular UFC Fighters to Visit Victory Field Monday
July 16, 2010 No commentsINDIANAPOLIS — During the Indianapolis Indians’ Monday, July 19 contest against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, current Ultimate Fighting Championship competitors Chris Lytle and Matt Mitrione will compete in the Tribe’s in-game dizzy bat promotion. The event, which requires each participant to spin around a bat ten times and then race from a position in the outfield to the left field foul line, will take place at the end of the third inning.
Lytle, who is an Indianapolis native, graduated from Southport High School in 1993 before beginning his mixed martial arts training in 1998. In his MMA career, Lytle has won 29 fights, including four by knockout, while, in 15 matches as a boxer, he has 13 wins, including seven via the knockout. Lytle, who has a wife and four children, is a full-time firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department.
Mitrione, who was born in Springfield, Illinois, was a cast member of Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights.” The MMA fighter is a former defensive tackle for Purdue University and went on to play in the NFL for the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings. Mitrione, who owns a 2-0 record in MMA competition, defeated Kimbo Slice via TKO (punches) at UFC 113 on May 8, 2010.
Prior the the start of the contest, Chris Lytle’s son Jake and Matt Mitrione’s son Jacob will each throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
