• Plainfield police search for suspects in attempted abduction

Police say a little girl attending a family event was the victim of an attempted abduction late Saturday afternoon in Plainfield.

The 10-year-old girl was attending a family event at the Aquatic Center in Plainfield when she went looking for her mother, who she thought went outside to their car in the parking lot.

According to police reports, the girl stated she walked out to the middle of the lot and was approached by a white male, with short brown hair, wearing a black jacket.

Reports stated the man got out of a white vehicle said to the girl, “I have candy”.

She immediately ran back into the Aquatic Center and reported the incident to a worker, who asked her to show him where the truck was located for security camera purposes.

The little girl described the vehicle as a white vehicle, possibly the size of an SUV that had two white males inside, parked by a curb in the Aquatic Center’s lot.

The worker and police were able to pull up footage of the little girl walking out to the lot and running back exactly at the time she stated.

The surveillance video also showed a white SUV backing out of the parking lot and exit in the wrong direction onto Vestal Road. However, the SUV was parked in such a spot that it didn’t appear very clear.

The little girl is safe with her mother and police are investigating the incident.
