• Plainfield dedicates new fire station

The Plainfield Fire Territory has officially dedicated its new facility — Fire Station 123.

The new station is at 400 Airtech Parkway in the Airtech Business Park on the east side of Plainfield. At more than 22,000 square feet, the facility is Plainfield’s largest station dedicated to the fire services.

The station had a soft opening in December, staffing the facility with a medic crew of two. The facility is now fully operational and staffed by seven or eight firefighters per day.

Station 123 has been built to handle the demand for service on the east side of town, as well as looking toward future needs in Plainfield. Capacity for the station is for 15 firefighters, which allows for extra staffing when operating under emergency circumstances.

The station also includes a training center to allow Plainfield firefighters to stay on-site while working on ladder training or self-rescue training, he said.

There are two areas where firefighters can train in confined spaces, such as manhole or sewer pipe situations. There is also a three-story training tower that allows for rope rescue. Two indoor mezzanines allow for high line or “zipline” techniques.
