• Pittsboro restaurant gets new owner

A popular Pittsboro restaurant will be staying open after all.

After owners of Frank and Mary’s restaurant announced that the restaurant would soon be closing, a buyer was found to keep it open.

In a story in today’s Hendrick’s County Flyer, Owner Larry Herring put out a call to the community in hope of finding a buyer when he decided he could no longer keep the establishment open.

Frank and Mary’s was opened in Pittsboro in 1945 by Herring’s grandparents, Frank and Mary Herring. The business recently celebrated its 66th year in business.

A few weeks ago, Herring announced that he was closing the business due to financial hardship but was still praying to find someone to purchase it. As word spread, the restaurant’s business picked up and numerous people called to see if it was still open.

Herring said he could not yet release the name of the person who is buying the restaurant and tavern but said the exchange of ownership will be in February 2012.

The business is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
