• Pacers Get Their Man

    August 12, 2010 No comments

For many pundits, the Indiana Pacers have always been a solid point guard away from regaining their position as a solid playoff and championship contender.

Team President Larry Bird patiently waited and in the end got the man he was looking for as the Pacers were involved in a four-team deal that saw them acquire young point guard Darren Collison from the New Orleans Hornets yesterday.

The deal involved the Pacers, Hornets, the Houston Rockets and the New Jersey Nets. Indiana also acquired veteran James Posey while sending Troy Murphy to the New Jersey Nets.

Collison averaged nearly 19 points and 9 assists in 37 games as a starter for the Hornets last season. Collison immediately goes to the head of the class once training camp opens. The Pacers have been looking to trade and possibly buyout T.J. Fords contract but Ford has rejected the buyout overtures.

Bird indicated that while the acquisition of Collison was a major step forward for the franchise, he hinted that the Pacers may not be finished in looking to make more deals.
