The final round of the 2011 IHSAA boys’ golf championship took place yesterday at The Legends of Indians golf course in Franklin Indiana. Brebuf Jesuit came away with the title after they finished in a tie with Columbus North with a two day team score of 591. The Braves won the title on the combined 5th player scores from both days.

Avon finished sixth overall shooting a 292 on the first day and 309 on the second. The Orioles Patrick Rodgers finished third overall in the individual standings shooting a 70 in round one and a 71 in the final round.

Rodgers was also selected as the Fred A. Keesling Mental Attitude Award winner. The Keesling Award is presented to the outstanding senior participant during the state finals each year. The recipient of the award, nominated by his principal and coach, was determined to have best demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in boy’s golf. The award is named after the former long-time state tournament director. Rodgers, the 2010 state champion and 2009 runner-up, ranked fourth in his graduated senior class of 600 students. He will move on to Stanford University where he will play golf for the Cardinal and study economics.

He is the son of Charlie and Judy Rodgers of Avon.
