• Orioles and Red Devils Meet in Sectional 6 Championship

    The Avon Orioles will host the Pike Red Devils tonight in the sectional 6 championship game. Avon last won a sectional championship in 2005 where they went on to become the regional champions before falling in the semi-state.

    The Orioles are coming off a 25-21 win over rival Brownsburg last Friday night. The Orioles overcame a 21-3 deficit by scoring 22 unanswered points including 15 points in the fourth quarter The Orioles withstood a last minute Brownsburg threat by stopping the Bulldogs on fourth and goal at the two yard line to preserve the victory and move on to the Championship game.

    Oriole quarterback Logan Haston threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns while running for another to help Avon advance.

    Pike enters tonight’s contest with a record of 9-2. The Red Devils advanced to tonight’s game by defeating Terre Haute North last week 17-7 and defeating perennial power Ben Davis 45-38 in overtime in their first round game. Pike only sectional championship was in 2007 when the Red Devils advanced all the way to the state Championship game before falling to Warren Central 16-7.
