• Oriole volleyball wins Hendricks County Tournament

    The nationally ranked Avon Volleyball team remains undefeated as they took home the championship trophy at Hendricks County tournament over the weekend.

    In the morning, Avon started off with a 25-13, 25-11 victory over Plainfield, led by 4 kills each from junior Emily Graves and senior Jill Steinmetz and 16 assists from senior Madi Reeves.

    The semifinal match was a rematch of Thursday night’s match against Brownsburg which resulted in a 25-22, 25-18 win. Freshman Beth Prince had 11 kills while senior Katie Higginbotham came through with 9 kills and 5 digs. Setting honors were led by senior MAdi Reeves 13 assists and sophomore Rachel Griffins 12s.

    The final match was a 25-13, 25-11, 25-14 win against Cascade. 5 Players had 5 kills or more including freshman Calle Weddle’s 6 kills. Defensively the Orioles were led by sophomore Rebekah Stranges 8 digs, freshman Brooke Peters 7 digs, senior Rachel McKinney’s 6 digs and senior Ali Bexell’s 5 digs.

    Next up for the Orioles is a trip to Danville Tuesday night.
