• Oriole volleyball team brings home state title

    November 06, 2012 No comments

Last season the Avon Orioles volleyball team were practically untouchable finishing the regular season undefeated on their way to the state championship game. But the Orioles dreams of the state championship were dashed when they lost their 1st and only match of the season in that title game to Penn to finish as state runner-up.

While Avon wasn’t quite as dominant this season as they were last, the fourth-ranked Orioles once again found themselves in the class 4A title game Saturday afternoon at Ball State against the Carmel Greyhounds.

    This time the Orioles would not be denied as Avon brought home the state volleyball championship when the Orioles defeated the Greyhounds 21 – 25, 25 – 20, 25 – 17, 21 – 25, 15 – 10.

Along with the state title, Avon’s Kayla Springer was named the class 4A mental attitude award winner.
