• Operation Indy Commute gets underway

    April 23, 2012 No comments

As work winds down on the west side of Indianapolis, motorists who travel to the northeast side of the city should brace themselves for a big traffic change in the northeast commuter corridor. INDOT is rebuilding one of the busiest stretches of Interstate 69 which may cause some delays.

The idea is to ease congestion, but it’s going to hurt a little bit to get there.

Today marks the start of “Operation Indy Commute.” INDOT will rebuild a busy stretch of I-69, leading to some night-time lane closures occurring between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

But 24-hour work starts this summer. And that’s when I-69 will go down to just two lanes in both directions.

Crews will work in the northbound lanes at exit five, where drivers connect to 116th Street in Fishers, and State Road 37 to Noblesville.

The whole project is expected to last about two years.
